Description

Hailing from Montreal, Quebec, The Agonist first stormed onto the global metal scene in 2004. After being quickly swept up by international metal label, Century Media, before even ever having released music, The Agonist began touring extensively in 2007 following their debut album, Once Only Imagined. Their second full length release, Lullabies for the Dormant Mind, was met with anticipation and excitement in 2009. They have played in Europe, Japan and China and headlined in Japan, Finland, Spain, Portugal, Mexico, several countries in South America and parts of US and parts of Canada.

The Agonist is fronted by vocalist Alissa White-Gluz, popular for her vegan activism and intelligent, statement-oriented lyrics as well as her eye-catching, unique style. Since becoming known for her global campaigns against animal cruelty, her positive messages, her straight-edge lifestyle, as well as her appearances in Revolver, Metal Hammer, Burrn!, and many other magazine covers and tv appearances, she has developed a close connection with fans who often look to her for more than just good music. She also sings in both French and English, spreading her positive and thought-provoking lyrics to a wider  audience.

Guitarist Danny Marino, nephew of the legendary Frank Marino, has become known for his raw, personal musical style that has developed into a niche genre for the band.

Bassist Chris Kells is always one to bring any show to a dangerously energetic level, often involving crowd members and being a visual focal point of the live show.

Drummer Simon McKay, since his inception into the band just prior to Lullabies for the Dormant Mind, has brought his abundant musical talent to the band's song writing to really develop the over all sound and style.

The newest addition, guitarist Paco Jobin, promises only to enhance and improve the band's already thoughtful and intricate sound and live show with his inclusion on the upcoming third album, set for release in early 2012.

Having released music that stands out and makes people think in a scene that is far too often close-minded, The Agonist challenges musical norms and really creates music for art's sake, not to follow trends or blend in. Against odds they have toured North America, South America, Japan, China, Europe (etc) and appeared in countless magazines, radio shows, tv shows and online press in said territories. Their three official music videos, Business Suits and Combat Boots (2007), ...and Their Eulogies Sang Me To Sleep (2009), and Thank You, Pain (2009) have gained them honors in television and youtube categories and receive continued attention and praise.

With The Agonist's third album almost completed, 2012 promises to hold exponentially more tours, videos and opportunities for this blossoming musical project. With a growing army of loyal followers around the world, the band always leaves a lasting impression musically, visually, emotionally and mentally. Fans and artists alike look forward to the continued success of The Agonist.
