Art of the Danforth

Art of the Danforth (AoD) is a festival of free public art installations and activities presented at over 40 locations along Danforth Avenue between Greenwood and Amroth. The first AoD in 2010 was received with great enthusiasm by residents and retailers of the east Danforth community. Our second Art of the Danforth is scheduled for May 20 – June 10, 2012 and promises to be bigger and better than the last.

Our goals are to:
• encourage foot traffic along Danforth Avenue
• increase community engagement
• showcase local artistic talent
• bring together people from various cultures and interests in the creation and appreciation of art.

The 2012 Art of the Danforth festival will include:
Public Art: 40 large-scale, site-specific projects created by four dynamic curatorial teams. Video projections, interactive installations set in “derelict” spaces, on-site theatre performances integrating local history and contemporary whimsy, and more.
Art in Stores: Local artists will display paintings, sculpture, and photography in local stores
Walking Tours: theatrical performers will lead walking tours from site to site, delivering a performance that will educate and entertain.
Arts Workshops: Free public arts workshops in activities such as drumming, painting and crafts-making
Live Performances: Free public performances by local musicians, dancers and interactive performers offered in public spaces such as street corners, empty lots and parks.

This event is primarily fueled through volunteer efforts and donations (though we are eternally grateful to our funders).  But there always expenses that volunteerism can't cover and that's why we've launched this campaign to raise money to cover project expenses.

We are aiming to raise $1500 (or more) to help pay for artists, materials, supplies, insurance and more. If you can spare even a small amount of money to help, please do!  We NEED you!!!
